post assignment#3 Korean Halloween day.

Have you ever heard of bugaboo which is a kind of Asian ghosts? In Korea, there was also Halloween day for bugaboo, although many Korean don’t know that. Actually, I didn’t even know that there was that kind of day in Korea before I found this information because nobody celebrates that festival nowadays. Long times ago, people in Korea believed in bugaboo. Especially, January 16 depending on lunar calendar is a special day for bugaboos. They gather together to enjoy their party. The meaning is little different from American Halloween day. But, really different thing between the festival in Korea and in America is reason why people do something on the day. People living in Korea long time ago believed that the day is very harmful for people. So, they didn’t want to go out from village. Moreover, they put some a charm on the door to prevent themselves from bad effect of bugaboo. And, they were disguised like bugaboos. They made fun together by making a dramatic performance. That story of performances was largely that people beat bugaboo finally. By doing that, people thought it helps ill luck to be gone from them or their family. In fact, the festival for bugaboo disappeared in Korea. Some Korean doesn’t know anything about this include me. I was ashamed of that as a Korean. I think Koreans are supposed to keep our tradition by knowing about our tradition more such as the bugaboo’s day.
